The unit applies to job roles including Arboriculture Supervisor, Farm Forestry Supervisor, Forestry Supervisor, Forestry Operations Supervisor, Harvesting Supervisor, Harvesting Team Leader, Propagation and Stand Health Supervisor and Tree Farm Supervisor.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. Where bold italicised text is used, further information is detailed in the range of conditions.

1. Prepare for implementation of forest establishment plan

1.1 Review local authority coverage, land owning boundaries, and forest design plan.

1.2 Identify forest location including map and grid references.

1.3 Check land use zoning and planning permits for approval status.

1.4 Check site environmental protection measures.

2. Implement forest establishment plan

2.1 Select method of establishment to meet requirements of the forest type, and environmental and organisational guidelines.

2.2 Select forest type and available species for establishment.

2.3 Identify topography and how this will impact forest.

2.4 Direct operational activities and schedule activities, material and equipment.

2.5 Coordinate forest design and planting strategy to establish the forest

3. Monitor and review forest establishment plan

3.1 Inspect correct implementations of environmental protection measures for the landscape, soil and drainage.

3.2 Communicate with operational staff, clients and contractors during the establishment phase to ensure smooth operation and progress

3.3 Monitor operational activities for potential improvements

3.4 Record and report on implementation of forest establishment plan.
